Lenovo Ideapad S10-1311UW 10.2-Inch White Netbook Review

I spent much time looking for a netbook that the OS would support my choice with a minimum of work for me – not to play with kext and DellEFI or nothing. I was under a lot of source material OS X as possible to work without installing alternatives (eg, Wi-Fi card). The S10 is ideal for editing.

My advice would be to the properties of both dependent and independent discussion of the operating system.

The building is to some of high quality comparedNetbooks I have used. The plastic does not creak or bend when you open the lid or pick up. It weighs only 3 kg. But it feels very solid in the hand. I have to be the hard disk and RAM, more than sufficient, but if I wanted to upgrade, Lenovo complicated the process, unlike other manufacturers who dig for them. The Atom processor has been described as "prison, but I have not noticed any slowness in OS X with integrated graphics, is not streaming video like YouTube and Huluperfect, but it is with my G4 1.5 GHz with 1.25 GB of RAM: a bit choppy, but watchable bound. The same could be said for every atom netbook, and I think more RAM would be useful.

As with all netbooks, the plan, the compromise includes small form factor and low price keep:

1) The keyboard of the S10 uses the standard – the punctuation is everything that you expect to be – but the right shift key is a half size to make room for the up arrow to make the I thinkDoing a lot. With more practice, this would not be a problem, and my only real complaint from the keyboard layout. If it would really bug you will get S10-2, which has a shift key to right-size.

2) The Amazon ships this model with a 3-cell battery, and even further down the brightness with wifi, only the input, I do not have to take a position in 02:45 off of him. Here again, the S10-2 is a better option because it comes with a 6-cell battery (5.5 hours, easily). Anyway, ifThey have a 6-cell battery, it will remain a little, and the proposal for the computer to a slight angle.

3) The S10 comes just two USB ports. For me it was enough, but the performance may vary. The S10-2 comes with three USB ports, but the ExpressCard slot.

4) After the Snow Leopard, any component other than Ethernet, and works internal microphone. If you need it, the Apple USB to Ethernet works fine. I need a microphone, but if you Skype or iChatw / video, i think, all USB microphone that works well with 10.6. I prefer the S10 over the S10-2 only here, because the webcam works with iChat on the S10-2, not on Skype or Photo Booth. The S10-2 could not sleep, which is very irritating after a while. The S10 has no sleep problems, as long as you change a setting in System Preferences.

Overall I'm happy with the S10. He threatened, but they do not bother me, especially for the price. I will be happy to hang what AppleNews anything comparable in size.

Lenovo Ideapad S10 10.2-Inch Netbook (1.6 GHz Intel Atom N270 Processor, 1 GB RAM, 160 GB Hard Drive, XP Home) Black Review

I looked at several brands before deciding on Lenovo Netbook. I am very happy with my decision. The keyboard is slightly smaller than the other 10 "netbooks, it is certainly appropriate with a small adjustment (I'm a touch-typing). The only annoying feature is the right shift key, like other 's noted. That said, the feeling of the keyboard is much better than others in my opinion. Furthermore, a new model is released today (S10-2) with a better organization of the keyboard.

Thewhere the Lenovo shines over the other, in my opinion, is in its comfort and performance. Others do not seem too much attention to detail that has this model to have him. For example, the keyboard on the HPS (I used it several times) is hill on the left side and the shiny plastic on the screen is wrinkled. Annoying. And many times the keyboards Asus recorded incorrectly (or not) take. The MSI Winds like to switch back. But Lenovo is very solidly built and looks moderate tastea machine as a good business should. Pretty nice, if that's your thing.

I found that there are several fast processor and hard drive for me, even "just installed" with 1 GB of RAM. But I'm not a gamer and do not care about videos on it, so I really push the limits. The screen is very nice and is full of 1024×600.

The model I received contained the operating system more quickly splash top. So that you can use a device OS that launch a browser (and renamed robbedApplication Firefox 2), a media player and a few tools and others. It's nice, but it disables features such as plugins for the browser or the ability to upload files, so there are limits to what you can do with it. Great if you want to check news and weather, or get fast instructions to the door.

If you are interested, here is how the disk is partitioned 115 GB primary partition formatted FAT32 contain the Windows XP operating system. I'm pretty sure that FAT32 was chosen to replace the currentNTFS, because it Splash top for accessing media files that you can receive and store, is using Windows. A second formatted NTFS partition of 30 GB as D: drive in Windows, and there is a partition on the 3rd (hidden in Windows) used to store disc images for the system unique key for the restore.

I wanted to install Ubuntu Netbook Remix works but the manual advises that the partitions of 115 GB or play 15, because it can restore the key is no longer unique. So I decided to use part of the 30 GB toInstalling Ubuntu partition. This actually seems to work quite well, as Ubuntu has no problem with easy access to the primary partition FAT32 natively. So you can record your music, movies, photos and work files on the big partition and save it in either Windows or Ubuntu. Enables a configuration very well.

The Ubuntu installation was painless. Just follow the instructions on the Ubuntu website, and it is about the rest. Networking, sleep mode, the screenBrightness and volume, and all have the function of the other, without making any changes worked. Only need to run using the internal microphone, but the instructions are available when they are on the web. The UNR is nice to think that it makes very good use of the limited area of the screen on these smaller computers. It boots faster than Windows, and seems generally flexible.

I recommend this model to all in the market for a netbook.

Much better than I expected. – D. Davis – Texas
This is a laptop made good – this really is not fast, but it's really cheap. – He has a ton of hard drive – the keyboard just as I have a few typos time, but it can run applications in my big chair, and I mess with it 2 to 4 hours per day.

Easily overloooked, great little netbook in a crowded market – Peter Nom De Guerre – New York, NY
The first thing's first: when it comes to shopping netbook, you have many options. Called Asus, Acer, Lenovo, HP, MSI, Samsung – to name a few – have all thrown their hats in the game (it seems Apple is) to stand as the only holdout. It may seem a little strange that someone looking for a machine to $ 300 – $ 400 and do not know where to start.

The Lenovo S10 is a good choice for many reasons. I'm going with the least important, beginning: aesthetics. It is (mostly) just a solidly builtUnit, and it looks good in black or white (or other color combinations to funky). It feels solid and substantial, the screen is bright and attractive, and the trackpad, while small, is well placed to react.

[A note on minors Build Quality: circles of money on each side of the S10 can die if they suffer a drop / shock, making it much less attractive than that. So be careful.]

In terms of performance if you go with the standard model $ 300-400,You probably have an early 1.60 GHz Intel Atom processor, which is good for word processing, internet, light (with emphasis on light) of photo-retouching and editing, music management, and as a result. Nevertheless, I have some video encoding on this thing (the addition of subtitles and others), and the boy has swallowed it. I think it will do to intensive treatment, but it will take time, sweet.

A good thing with the S10 is that adding a stick of RAM (strongly recommended –and inexpensive ($ 25)) and the exchange of HD is a snap. The bottom of the netbook just opens, and you have instant access to all his courage yummy.

A few questions but something bothers me: The first big mistake with this unit is (1) wireless card Wonky loses from time to time, a signal for no reason. I tested all the elements of my home network (a D-Link DIR-655 router is running and you use a NAS, and two phones), including this one, and the fault lies squarely with failure, the S10Wireless card. The second is (2) it is hot. The fan rotates, and it is a bit much for such a small laptop. Do not get me wrong, it is not strong or irritating significantly stronger, but when you are in a small, quiet room, you will hear (and if on your knees feel).

All this said, if you are on the market for a netbook low price the work done is replaced, the Lenovo S10 is as good as other inputs. Add a stick of RAM, and you can easily dual-boot. I played withMSI Wind (and got a Christmas for my sister) and the Eee PC (a friend has it), and the S10 one Smidge just feels better than two. But ultimately, it is best to play with everyone and then decide.

Great item – Howard Thomas – GA United States
After they first have purchased a 9-inch Dell back and because the Wi-Fi does not work, I thought, a little larger screen would be better. I am very happy with the 10-inch netbook Lenovo satisfied. I use it as a computer away from home. Lightweight and great for travel.
